Dear Members,
We are updating you on a couple of exciting changes in the Family of Women!  We believe these changes will open further opportunities for growth, both for our organization and for women personally.
First, the Board of Directors has voted to eliminate the Women’s Discovery Weekend as the entry point to Family of Women membership.  In addition, the Board has voted to shorten the length of term of members of the Board of Directors to 2 years.
Entry Point
The Women’s Discovery Weekend is a cornerstone of who we are in the world and what we offer to women, and it provides a transformational experience.  However, in response to ongoing conversations with our members and comments that the Family of Women “makes it difficult for women to join us,” the Board decided that the Women’s Discovery Weekend (WDW) should no longer be a required entry point for the Family of Women.
Women who are interested in joining the Family of Women may join with the full benefits of membership without completing the WDW before joining.  This change means that there is now one level of membership (the labels of Friends and Supporting have been retired).   To provide new women with an introduction to the Family of Women, we have included our Essentials on the Family of Women website, which will make our culture and core beliefs available to current and new members.
The WDW will continue to be a prerequisite for women wishing to hold leadership positions in the Family of Women or to participate in Leadership Training.
Length of Board Term
The length of term for an elected Board member will be shortened from 3 years to 2 years, beginning with Board members elected in the spring of 2018.  Some members have told us that they are hesitant to make a 3-year commitment, so we expect this change to encourage more members to be interested in Board service.
Upon review of many non-profit Boards, we determined that a 2-year term is standard, on average. The terms of members currently on the Board will not be affected by this change.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you.  We wish you all happy holidays and a new year full of possibilities.
In loving service,
Board of Directors, Family of Women
