  • Who we are
  • 1. Who are we and what do we believe?

The Family of Women is a purpose-driven, non-profit organization whose members strive to support one another to have successful lives and relationships.

We are a community of women who believe that self-acceptance is the cornerstone of a woman's happiness and well-being.  We are women who have the audacity to believe that we can live a life of passion and purpose and that another woman's success does not impede our own.  In cultivating relationship, we support one another to take our place as purposeful women in the world, and to have our dreams become reality.

  • 2. What is the mission and purpose of the Family of Women?

We lead, inspire, and mentor women to embrace their power, purpose, and value, and to take responsibility for their relationships. We empower women to live the lives they love, igniting their passion to make a positive contribution in the world.

  • 3. How do you do that?

We meet, in person or on the phone, and participate in structured programs where we learn and practice successful relationship and leadership skills. By developing and practicing, we discover truths about ourselves and each other. It is in this process that we establish deep and lasting bonds and trust with one another, while simultaneously removing the barriers that keep us from living our dreams.

We deliver skills that will help you live a richer life. We don't offer sugar-coated quick fixes. (Most of us have tried those, and we know they don't work!) We offer a way to live life on life's terms, with tools that work, and continual support. We also provide ample opportunities for leadership in our community, because we know that by stepping up to the challenges and responsibilities of leading here, you will learn to lead powerfully in your own life.

  • 4. Where are you located?

We are comprised of many local areas and chapters within two territories -

    • East which includes locations such as New York City, Boston, and Toronto, and;
    • West which includes Calgary, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

As well as many smaller or more remote areas in between! Check out our regional contacts for more info or submit a general inquiry to membership@familyofwomen.org

  • 5. What about confidentiality?

Protecting each others privacy is a cornerstone of our way of being. We hold each other to strict standards of confidentiality, trust and acceptance.

  • 6. Who we are not.

The Family of Women is not a support group nor is it designed or delivered in such a way as to be psychotherapeutic.

We are non-denominational and have no religious affiliations.  We are not a cult or members of any kind of institute, patriarchal or polygamous society or organization.  We are not TV evangelists and we cannot make unicorns appear out of thin air… although that would be cool, the thing about unicorns that is.

  • Program Information
  • 1. What is a program?

Programs are regular meetings conducted during six month cycles. Most of the meetings are face to face although other alternatives are available in some locations to accommodate women who cannot meet face to face due to geographic.

Our programs provide the opportunity to create a personal goal during the six month cycle, and to have the support of the other program members in helping you achieve that goal.

  • 2. What does a typical program look like?

Each six-month cycle has a theme which the program material supports. Past themes have included Self-Discipline, Passion, and Gratitude.
In each program there are questions, exercises, and other experiential activities designed to support the women in achieving their cycle goals and to bring each woman into a greater understanding and acceptance of herself.

Programs are a safe and loving place for women to come together and be themselves.

  • 3. What kind of commitment is involved?

Programs meet for 2-3 hours each week.  Some of us choose to participate on a less structured level depending on time constraints. For these members, there are periodic meetings and other events where participation is optional. The choice is always yours.

  • 4. When and where do programs meet?

Programs meet in living rooms, board rooms, community centres....anywhere that a safe space, free of distractions can be created and maintained for the duration of the meeting.

Confidentiality is priority #1. Safe = Share = Support = Success!

  • 5. Who can attend programs?

Women who are in good standing with their membership dues and program registration fees are eligible to attend weekly programs.

  • 6. How many women are in program?

The minimum number of woman for a face to face program is four.  The maximum suggested is 10 women per program so that every woman truly has the opportunity to share, be seen and heard and receive the support and mentoring that she needs.

  • 7. How do I find a program near me?

  • 8. What is your current program topic?

Our topic for January-June 2016 is:  "Communication: What's your message?"

Motivational speaker Brian Tracy says "Communication is a skill that you can learn. It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life." Are you ready to improve the quality of your life by improving your communication? If so, join us in January for "Communication: What's your message?" This cycle we will explore communication from a number of different perspectives. We'll share how we already communicate effectively and learn how to enhance our ability to send and receive communications. There are many different ways to communicate in our world today - let's explore them together!! Whadda ya say?
  • 9. Are you involved in Community Service?

The Family of Women has a strong tradition of making a difference in the world. This is one of the key principles of our Mission, and also one of our Core Values.

    Our Core Value of Service:

"We embrace our responsibility to humanity through being of service to our members, communities, and society at large. Our acts of service strengthen our communities, allowing each of us to realize our purpose in the world."

Chapters sometimes plan specific service events, or may have a Special Program dedicated to Community Service. A day of service activity is often incorporated into our weekly program agendas as well, so that all members have the opportunity to be of service in some capacity, working together with the women in their weekly meetings.

In addition, many ongoing service activities are led by members of our organization, and these are open to anyone who wishes to join. Your Chapter Coordinator or Program Leader can give details of community service opportunities in your area.

  • 10. What else do you offer?

In addition to our regular program meetings, we currently offer a number of specialty programs for our members. Such programs include Leadership Training, the Married Women's Program, the Getting Ready Program for single women who are contemplating marriage, Community Outreach programs, the Ambassador Program, and the Women’s Discovery Weekend.
